GENERAL FIXES
Generally speaking, some basic troubleshooting tips should always help you resolve whatever issue you are facing with the PC version of any game. If you are running into problems, maybe first attempt the following steps, and if they don’t work out, look into some of the more specific fixes we have below.
- Make sure the drivers on your PC are updated
- If you have two GPUs, make sure you are using the discrete GPU instead of the integrated one
- Set Dark Souls Remastered’s priority to High in the Task Manager Turn off any background programs, including firewalls, chat clients, video recorders, and overlays
- Try lowering visual settings on the game to see if that improves game performance
- Make sure you have Windows updated before you attempt to play Dark Souls Remastered.
BLACK SCREEN ERROR
If you’re experiencing an issue where you encounter a black screen when you start up the game, then there’s a simple solution for it. The problem is caused because the game’s default resolution is set higher than your monitor’s native resolution. To fix the issue, just start up the game and then press ALT+ENTER to bring the game to windowed mode. Now, change the game’s resolution so that it matches your monitor’s native resolution. Once you do this, the problem will be resolved!
UNABLE TO CREATE NEW SAVE

If you’ve been unable to save the game, then the problem is most likely caused because of your anti-virus. Just add the game as an exception in your anti-virus software, and this problem will no longer bother you!
GREEN SCREEN FLICKERING
Some players have reported experiencing a problem where they see a green screen flicker when they start the game. The problem is related to the Desktop color depth and can be solved quite easily. Just open Nvidia Control Panel, navigate to ‘Change Resolution’ and under ‘Desktop Color Depth’ select ‘Highest (32 bit). This should resolve the issue for you!
GAME CRASHING
If you find that your game crashes every once in while, then the problem may be related to what the refresh rate is set as. To fix the issue, just navigate to ‘C:UsersNameAppDataLocalNBGIDarkSoulsDarkSouls.ini’ and open the ‘DarkSouls.ini’ file. Now, change the refresh rate to 60, and the problem will be fixed!
Note: Given that the wide range of PC hardware out there, the fixes mentioned here may or may not work for you. But it’s worth giving them a shot since these have worked for players who own the PC version of Dark Souls Remastered.
